Welcome to the website of St Bernard's Primary School, Batemans Bay. St Bernard's is a Catholic Co-educational Primary School within the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn, located on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales. The school caters for 390 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The Catholic community of the Archdiocese challenges its schools and teachers to share with parents the sacred responsibility for the educational, spiritual and emotional development of the young people in its care. Our mission is to ensure a truly Catholic learning community where the integration of faith and life is central to the culture and identity of the school, at every level. I am proud of the unique educational environment we offer at St Bernard's and the importance we place on our personal approach with each family.
As a Catholic school, we are nurturing within our students an inner compass of valuing and thinking in a way that brings about an holistic growth. As our students move from Kindergarten to Year 6 and beyond, they go with the knowledge that Jesus is their friend, that positive and caring relationships matter, and are enduring; and nothing is more important than being true to themselves. Our aim is to grow children into discerning, faith-filled, responsible, confident, and intelligent individuals who care deeply about the world in which we live. Developing a culture of understanding that is true to our Catholic identity is at the forefront of all that we undertake.
I acknowledge the Walbanja people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is built. We pay respects to Elders both past and present of Djuwin Country and extend that respect to all other Aboriginal People in our community. St Bernard’s welcomes you.
A great school stretches far beyond being just about academic achievement. We live in community with one another that demands so much more from us. We encourage the children to use the wisdom they gain at school; to be critical and creative thinkers. They will be collaborating and imagining new ways of doing things for employment opportunities that don’t yet exist; and will need the problem solving skills to get there. Our students are taught to take risks, make mistakes, and be passionate - there are no limits. The students are taught that everybody’s ability can grow and when they believe this, their achievement improves significantly.
It is a real privilege to work at St Bernard’s and be part of a very dedicated team; each with their personal vision, communicated through their daily actions and interactions with our community. I invite you to come and visit the school and experience for yourself the warmth and vibrance of the St Bernard's community. The highly professional staff demonstrate personal integrity through the Christian climate they create. In their vocation as Catholic educators, they have the interest of the students at heart and will endeavour to ensure the maximum is done in the development of each child.
Regular communication between school and home and shared decision-making in your child's education is valued and encouraged at St Bernard's. As you involve yourself in the school you will have the opportunity to meet new friends and be supported in your very sacred role as parents.
I look forward with enthusiasm to your association with St Bernard's and know that you will be delighted by the rich learning environment on which St Bernard's prides itself. It will be my pleasure to welcome you personally to our beautiful school.
